His recent response to the on-going Identity controversy

Many of us are aware of the music industry’s favorite party rocker, Andrew W.K, but the lingering question remains, has Andrew’s infamous party persona mislead and deceived the public since 2001?

Just over a month ago, a revealing video lecture recorded of Andrew W.K in London surfaced online.  In it, the self-dubbed Prince of Party appears to confirm the long-running rumors claiming that he was not the first person to appear to the public as Andrew W.K and continues to confess that a committee developed the character role. Within the statement Andrew claims “I’m not the guy you’ve seen from the I Get Wet album…I’m not that same person. I don’t just mean that in a philosophical or conceptual way. It’s not the same person at all.” If you’ve never heard the album, you’ve certainly recognized it. The cover art featuring Andrew W.K. with blood running from his nose and down over his neck has become a renowned image; it’s hard to believe that the man on the cover may not be the man appearing to audiences as the Prince of Party known today.

Causing quite a stir, the public was hit hard with the apparent confession until Andrew came out with yet another contradiction, only furthering the shock and confusion of his fans. Responding on his official website in a lengthy statement against the allegations of fraud, Andrew W.K. declared himself to be a genuine musician, true to both himself and his fans. On the other hand, the statement held no mention of the controversy surrounding his previous statements in London, or whether the man on the website is in fact the first person to perform as Andrew W.K or not.

The confusion surrounding Andrew W.K’s true identity has left us with many unanswered questions. In an attempt to clear up the chaos, Andrew has announced a public Q&A session hosted at his New York City nightclub, Santos Party House, on Feburary 23rd and promises to address all inquiries brought fourth.

With all considered, you still gotta love the guy…whoever he is. The party rock persona has been an inspiration to all the free-spirited, his music has become our anthems. In the words of Andrew himself,

“Long live music, and long live life. PARTY HARD!”
