The Bamboozle Roadshow 2010

The Bamboozle Roadshow 2010 is about to begin with less than a week before the opening date in Columbia, MD on Friday May 21st.

With two stages and around 14 bands playing each show, this year’s Roadshow takes a decidedly more festival-like approach to the tour than the 2009 Bamboozle Roadshow, which was more of a standard tour with 5 bands playing larger club venues. This year’s venues are much larger to accommodate the extra stage and larger crowds. The show is an all day event, rather than the usual 6pm or 7pm starting time.

Another change from last year is the timing – while last year’s roadshow led up to Bamboozle (usually held the first weekend in May) this year’s tour is more of a continuation of the festival rather than a preview. The lineup also changes depending on the date – for the lineup of the city closest to you, please check out the end of this article which has the tour dates and lineups for each individual venue.

There are both big name artists and some lesser known acts on the bill of each show. Several acts will have a nostalgia factor for some of our slightly older readers, such as Third Eye Blind (a personal favorite of mine), Hanson, Simple Plan, and Good Charlotte. The tour also features some of the most popular pop rock/ pop punk acts around today, featuring All Time Low, Forever The Sickest Kids, Boys Like Girls, 3OH!3, LMFAO, Cartel and Cobra Starship. You should also check out the openers, you never know who will be your next favorite band: Cady Groves, Drive A, Great Big Planes, Mercy Mercedes, Stereo Skyline, The Downtown Fiction, The Ready Set, Vita Chambers, I Fight Dragons, and Vedera.

The Summer Set started off the evening with an energetic set and were followed by Every Avenue, who played several new songs off of their recently released album, Picture Perfect. The Cab played next, complete with their two new touring members. The Maine was up next with an acoustic set performed by John O’Callaghan and Jared Monaco. This was the only AP Tour stop for The Maine while filling in for Hey Monday, who weren’t able to play due to some scheduling conflicts. Never Shout Never concluded the evening by performing a lively set to a very enthusiastic crowd who sang along with singer Cristopher Drew to every song.

These photos were taken on April 20th 2010 at The National, in Richmond, VA. The show only had two bands performing, with The Rocket Summer supporting The Goo Goo Dolls. Bryce Avery of The Rocket Summer started off the evening with an energetic 11 song set that included both older favorites such as Do You Feel and So Much Love as well as some material off of the newly released album, Of Men and Angels. He got the crowd involved in the middle of the set, walking out into the middle of the sold out audience to perform. The Goo Goo Dolls followed with a 23 song set including plenty of their many hits with an enthusiastic crowd singing along to every song.

Although they only formed in January 2010, they already have one superb recording up and a slew of past and up coming shows. It is clear this is a band that’s going somewhere, and if they can continue to put out music of this quality this quick, then they’ll be going somewhere fast.

“Forms” are a Progressive Metalcore band, but not in the “Architects” and “Structures” style, but rather they take from bands such as “Acacia Strain” and “For the Fallen Dreams”, and throw in great Progressive guitar parts on top, and don’t follow the usual never ending breakdown style of most moshcore bands. They keep you guessing at what’s next, while always able to keep your head nodding to the groove. This is a band that you can listen to over and over for a few reasons. Firstly, it’s down right heavy, and laced with original breakdowns for grooving to. Secondly, there is enough complexity in the music to make you come back to listen to listen to what exactly is going on in each part.

It is clear that it won’t be long before we are seeing this band across all of North America, because of thier ability to quickly write great music and be a productive band towards taking real steps forward as a professional band.

This band is great for fans of “Acacia Strain”, “Shadow Of The Colossus”, “For The Fallen Dreams” and (old) “Born Of Osiris”.

New Music FEAST #1!: Strangers

“Strangers” are a new band hailing from the small town of Moose Jaw, Canada! Most will ask, “Where the hell is that?” Simply put, it’s smack dab in the middle of nowhere, but that fact has its benefits. Music is an easy cure for boredom, and when most of your time is filled with boredom, you usually end up with a great musician (or a drug addict, or both).

Formed in early 2009 the band took a year of writing and demo recording before putting out their six song debut EP “Escapes” on Jan 2^nd, 2010.

Although not thee most original band of all time, it can be said that they have found a sound of their own that will help then stand out in this crowded new wave of Progressive bands. “Strangers” have very well written songs that are quite catchy, most often the catchiness is created by interesting back and forth guitar parts or great epic melodies, all while keeping you guessing at what will come next. They employ two vocalists, and although their voices are a little similar, they do compliment each other quite well, so it is perfectly acceptable.

Even though they have never done a full tour, be sure to look out for shows all across Canada (most notably Ontario) as they have just hired the infamous Rob Cripps as their new manager!

All in all, this band is a perfect find for all fans of “Misery Signals” (they even have some guest vocals from Karl) and “Counterparts”.

Steel Train started out the evening followed by Holly Miranda as main support. Tegan and Sarah completed the night by performing a two hour long set to a very eager crowd with plenty of people singing along to every song.
